Wilmington Peotone Road from US‑45/52 to Center Road Phase I

Project Purpose and Need

The purpose of this project is to improve safety, enhance mobility for all users through providing an efficient east-west connection, and support current and future travel demand throughout the corridor.

The needs for this project are to address deficiencies in the existing roadway and multimodal infrastructure and accommodate growth in local and regional traffic to improve mobility throughout the county.

Project Overview

This project is a 2-mile segment and includes improvements to the roadway cross section, intersection upgrades to increase capacity and safety, profile adjustments to improve sight distance, and drainage improvements.

Public Meeting

Will County Division of Transportation invites you to learn about potential improvements to Wilmington–Peotone Road between US-45/52 to Center Road, review the project alternatives, and share your feedback with the study team. At the meeting, you can review exhibits describing existing conditions, traffic operations, crash history, and the alternatives under consideration. Project team representatives will be available to explain the study, discuss the alternatives and their tradeoffs, and answer questions.

Preliminary Engineering Schedule

Timeline of the roadway engineering project from 2026 through 2028. Data collection begins in 2026, followed by evaluation of alternatives. Public engagement occurs at two points during 2026. The preferred alternative is identified near the beginning of 2027, followed by design refinement and environmental due diligence. Two additional public engagement points occur during 2027, with design approval anticipated around the beginning of 2028.
