Old Chicago Road to US 45/52 Phase I
Project Purpose and Need
The purpose of this project is to improve safety, enhance mobility for all users through providing an efficient east-west connection, and support current and future travel demand throughout the corridor.
The needs for this project are to address deficiencies in the existing roadway and multimodal infrastructure and accommodate growth in local and regional traffic to improve mobility throughout the county.
Project Overview
This project is a 9.3-mile segment and includes improvements to the roadway cross section, including the addition of passing lanes, profile adjustments to improve sight distance, intersection upgrades to increase capacity and safety, and drainage improvements.
Preliminary Engineering Schedule
Phase I – Preliminary Engineering 2025-2026
- Evaluate existing geometry and drainage, traffic, and crash data
- Public Involvement and Stakeholder Coordination
- Identify and compare alternatives
- Passing lane locations
- Intersection Improvements
- Select a preferred alternative
- Identify any impacts to utilities and environmental resources
- Identify proposed right-of-way
Phase II – Design 2026-2027
- Detail Design
- Coordinate utility relocations
- Acquire right-of-way
- Obtain environmental permits
Phase III – Construction
- Construction start is dependent on plan readiness, land acquisition, and funding availability
- Construction of this project will be completed in different sections over time to best align with available funding in each fiscal year. The timing of construction of each section has yet to be determined.
